Kenya Cup Match Day Four Preview

Rugby action continues this weekend with matches in the Kenya Cup and Eric Shirley Shield leagues on match day four. These leagues will witness a reduced amount of fixtures owing to the fact that quite a number of sides will be engaged in the Kenya University Sports Association games running over the same weekend. Consequently, matches in the Nationwide and Universities leagues have also been postponed.

We preview the three Kenya Cup fixtures slated for Saturday 17 December 2011

Kenya Cup

Kisumu RFC v Mwamba RFC

Kisumu Polytechnic Grounds, Kisumu

Kisumu RFC were 32-5 bonus point winners over Mean Machine RFC in the first Kenya Cup clash to take place in the lakeside town. They face a Mwamba RFC side that has registered two wins on the trot, their latest result being a narrow 18-15 result over Nakuru RFC.Kisumu will be out to register a second win and will be sure to come out guns blazing against a Mwamba side that will be out to avoid being on the wrong end of the scoreline in Kisumu.

Impala RFC v Nakuru RFC

Impala Club, Ngong Road,Nairobi

Impala's 22-12 win over Nondies was the just tonic the side needed after losing 6-5 to Strathmore on match day two. A second successive win for the red shirts will see them close out 2011 with a good league placing but they will have to contend with a Nakuru side who were narrow 18-15 losers to Mwamba RFC last weekend.

Kenya Commercial Bank RFC v Nondescript RUFC

Lions Den, Ruaraka, Nairobi

Kenya Commercial Bank are unbeaten heading into match day four, having registered two close wins over Homeboyz and Strathmore respectively. They come up against a Nondies side who are yet to win a match this season. Former KCB front row duo of Edwin Alubaka and Derrick Wamalwa, now at Nondies, come up against their former team mates at the Lions Den.

A win for KCB will see them end the calendar year perched atop the log while Nondies will be out to register a morale boosting win to lift them off the Kenya Cup basement.

Champions Kenya Harlequin FC and the newly promoted Homeboyz are not in action as their would opponents on Saturday, Strathmore Leos and Mean Machine are involved in the university games.

Emirates Airlines Cup of Nations

The Kenya fifteens national team wind up their Emirates Cup fixtures with a clash against hosts the United Arab Emirates at The Sevens in Dubai. Kenya began their campaign with a last gasp 27-25 win over Brazil last Saturday and led 12-10 at half time before falling to a 17-44 defeat at the hands of Hong Kong on Tuesday. The match will be played at 2.00pm this afternoon and will be aired live on Supersport 7 with a repeated screening on December 18 at 12.50 on Supersport 1.

  1. Curious to know why the Kenya Cup games were postponed cos of KUSA games and not for other teams when they had players in both the sevens and fifteens national teams. Double standards Muthee. League must go on. KUSA is not part of the Kenya Cup.
